TableStar Games Over-Commits at GenCon Indy
Berkeley, CA, 8/4/2006- TableStar Games, LLC announced today that they are offering “Too damn much excitement” for gaming fans at GenCon Indy 2006.
“We’re offering so much this year, it’s over the top,” Anthony Thompson, President of TableStar Games LLC asserted. “It’s not GenCon’s fault, it’s ours. We’re the problem.”GenCon Indy is the premiere event for connecting game designers with game players and fans. It will be held this year from August 10th through August 13th in the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. As it is historically a big show for the hobby games industry, games publishers strive every year to provide entertainment and attractions to the many thousands of fans that attend. Since attendance topped 25,000 last year, however, publishers have worked to add even more entertainment and excitement, and some may simply out done themselves. Mr. Thompson laments that TableStar Games is one such publisher.
“The $1,500 first prize at our Saturday night tournament is too much all by itself, but everyone who plays gets a prize! Everyone!” he said with exasperation. Mr. Thompson went on to enumerate the other attractions; twice-daily booth drawings for T-shirts, posters, and games, as well as round-the-clock demos of TableStar Games’ HeroCard products. Mr. Thompson asserted that not only would game designers be on-hand to autograph products, but that advance copies of HeroCard Rise of the Shogun and HeroCard Cyberspace would be available for demonstration.
Although this much entertainment, novelty, and excitement is seen as a boon for GenCon Indy attendees, it comes at a price for TableStar Games. “We had to expand our demo space into the Paizo booth, we can’t contain this any more.” Mr. Thompson commented, referring to TableStar Games’ products being demoed in the Paizo Publications booth, number XXXX, as well as in their own booth, number 1534. “And when are we supposed to sleep? The tournament, the give-aways, the sneak peeks, designer autographs, it’s too much! We should have left well enough alone…” Mr. Thompson commented, referring to the fact that the success of TableStar Games’ HeroCard non-collectable board and card game hybrids has traditionally been enough of a draw to keep his staff busy.
When asked how the company planned to top this appearance at next year’s GenCon Indy, Mr. Thompson was unable to issue an intelligible reply by press time.
